Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Pets Live Remastered collects, why, and what you can do about it. In short: we collect only what the game needs to work. We show no ads, use no analytics and never sell your data.
Who runs the game
Pets Live Remastered is run by Luis Cavanillas, an individual, not a company. It is a fan project, free to play. Players can support it with optional donations, and the Store may also sell master point packs, paid through Stripe. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Luis Cavanillas.
What we collect
- Account details. Your login name (the name you signed up with, which never changes), your trainer name (the name everyone sees, which can change), your email address and your password. The password is stored only as a hash, a one-way code that nobody can turn back into your password, not even us. We store your email address but send no email today. It identifies your account, for example when you write to us.
- Game data. What the game needs to run: your level, stats, coins, pets, abilities, quests, habitats, team, team requests, battles and bounties, what admins gave you, the starter pet you chose, when you signed up and when you last logged in. For the chat: whether you have the chat pass, the newest message you read and any mute an admin gave you, with its reason.
- What you post. Your comments, replies, team broadcasts, chat messages and motto.
- Payments. When you donate or buy something in the Store, we store the Stripe payment and checkout session ids, what you bought, the amount and currency, the date and the status (for example paid, refunded or disputed), linked to your account, and whether you have the Supporter badge. We never see or store your card details: you enter them on the checkout page, not in the game.
- Players you ignore. Who you ignore, and since when, so the game can hide their messages from you.
- Reports. When you report a comment, a chat message, a motto or a name, we store that you reported it and a copy of the text as it was then. The copy stays even if the text is deleted later, so an admin can still review it.
- Technical data. To stop abuse, the game counts attempts (logins, sign-ups and some actions) per IP address. It doesn't store the address itself, only a keyed hash: a scrambled code that can't be turned back into the address. Counters for an IP address last an hour at most, and old counters are deleted automatically. Our hosting providers, Vercel and Neon, keep their own short-lived logs of requests, which can include IP addresses.
- Errors. When the game or your browser hits an error, we keep what failed and where (for example the page and the error message), so we can fix it. We keep nothing about you with it: no username, email or IP address, and emails, addresses and other values are removed from the message. An error not seen for 30 days is deleted.
What we store on your device
- A login cookie, so you stay logged in. It is essential: the game can't work without it, and it is never used to track you. The game's own pages can't read it, and your browser only sends it back to the game. Logging out deletes it and ends your login on every device, changing your password ends it on every other device, and it stops working on its own after 7 days.
- Who is logged in and until when, in your browser's local storage, so the game knows to show your pages. Logging out removes it.
- The time the game last reloaded itself after an update, in your browser's session storage. Your browser deletes it when you close the tab.
- The time the chat last opened a live connection, in your browser's session storage, so it doesn't open a second one while the first may still be running. Your browser deletes it when you close the tab.
That is all. The login cookie is the only cookie the game sets. If our host's firewall ever needs to check that a visitor is not a bot, it may set a short-lived security cookie.
This website
This website, pets-live.com, has the game's news, its changelog and these pages. The game itself is at game.pets-live.com.
The website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It uses no analytics and loads no code or fonts from other companies. Vercel hosts it, like the game, and keeps the same short-lived logs of requests (see What we collect). As for the game, if our host's firewall needs to check that a visitor is not a bot, it may set a short-lived security cookie.
How we use it
- To run the game: your account, your progress, battles, teams and messages.
- To keep the game fair and safe: attempt limits, the automatic text filter, reports, moderation and bans.
- To take your donations and purchases, give you what you paid for, and handle refunds and disputes.
- To answer you when you write to us.
- To find and fix bugs, and to keep the game running.
What we never do
- We show no ads.
- We use no analytics or tracking tools, and the game loads no code from other companies.
- We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
- We don't build profiles about you.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. Your ignore list keeps a player until you unignore them. Chat messages stop showing 30 days after they were sent, and are deleted soon after. When you delete one of your chat messages, its text is gone at once. When your account is deleted, so is your data, except:
- Reports you made about other players stay, without your name, as evidence.
- A report on one of your comments or chat messages keeps its copy of the text for the admins while your account exists, even after the message is deleted.
- The moderation log, a record of what admins did, stays. An entry about you can still hold a message an admin removed, a ban reason, a past name or a change an admin made to your game data.
- Other players keep their battle win and loss counts.
- Payment records stay, without the link to your account, for accounting and refunds. Stripe and Link keep their own records under their privacy policies.
Database backups are encrypted, never edited by hand, and deleted after 30 days, so your data can stay in a backup for up to 30 days after it was deleted. Hosting logs are replaced on their own schedule, usually within a few days.
Deleting your account
In the game: open the settings menu (the gear on Home), choose Delete Account and confirm with your password. It happens at once.
If you can't log in, email us at luiscavanillas@hotmail.com from the address on your account, and tell us your login name or trainer name. We will delete the account within 30 days and tell you when it is done.
Deleting an account removes its pets, progress, coins and master points, Supporter badge, team links, comments and replies (with the replies under its comments), broadcasts, chat messages, battles, bounties and ignores, both the players it ignored and the players who ignored it. Bounties other players placed on you are refunded to them. It can't be undone.
Your rights
Wherever you live in the United States, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data,
- correct it (you can also change your trainer name yourself with Dr. Will, in the game), or
- delete it.
Email us from the address on your account. We will answer within 30 days. It is free, and asking will never change how you are treated in the game. Some states, such as California, give these rights by law. We give them to everyone.
We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We don't track you across websites, and we don't sell or share your data. So a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal from your browser has nothing to turn off here: you already get what it asks for.
Security
The game uses HTTPS, stores passwords only as hashes, limits login attempts and loads no code from other sites. No system is perfectly secure, though, so use a password you don't use anywhere else. You can change your password in the settings menu on Home. There is no password reset today: keep your password safe.
Children
Pets Live Remastered is for people 13 or older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, as the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires. If we learn that a player is under 13, we delete the account and its data.
If you are a parent or guardian and think your child under 13 has an account, email us at luiscavanillas@hotmail.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the game changes, and change the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change matters for your data, we will also show a notice in the game.
